IT’S HEAVY IN HERE MAN

Friday February 2nd 2007

We went to Soul Britannia at the Barbican - a celebration of UK soul, R’n’B, and funk. Headlining was the Brand New Heavies with the amazing vocals of N’dea Davenport who had either eaten a lot of pies or was quite pregnant (I think it was the latter). What a great sound - good funky bass, tight drumming, three-piece horn section and backing vocals. The acoustics of the hall wasn’t great but it didn’t stop us. Everyone was out of their seats in minutes and dancing in the aisles.

Guests included Omar and Carl McIntosh (Loose Ends). Afterwards the party continued into the foyer with Jazzie B from Soul II Soul dj’ing and performing an eclectic mix of 70’s 80’s and 90’s disco and funk. The place was rocking.
