GRAFFITI AND BUTTOCKS

December 27th, 2006

A day of artistic contrasts. Someone had broken into our local tube station and covered the walls with graffiti. You couldn’t even see which trains were coming as the electronic readouts were thick with spray paint. Police suspect the “artists” wandered through the deserted tunnels on Christmas Day when the stations were closed for the holiday.

We were on our way to the Dulwich Picture Gallery. This south London treasure houses world-class collections of European old master paintings. As we viewed the paintings, we recalled the Manchild episode when Patrick is educating James about art. Standing in front of Nymphs by a Fountain by Sir Peter Lely, Patrick explains how buttocks ruled the canvases of the 1600s.
