COME UP AND SEE ME, MAKE ME SMILE

Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel

December 2006

I took my brother and Lynette to see one of my favourite songwriters and performers, Steve Harley at the Shepherds Bush Empire. We saw him here last year and this venue seems to be the last stop of his tour. Talk about audience participation. Everyone sings along - it’s like being at a football match. Great  feeling.

Steve can really belt out the songs - he’s got a powerful voice. He was originally intended to be the phantom in Lloyd Webber’s production before Michael Crawford was given the role. But he’s best known for his song Come Up and See Me which gets used a lot on TV and in the film The Full Monty. We sang along to that one as well. Steve took a video of the audience singing - we’re in here somewhere (number 14).
