NO MAN’S LAND

November 23, 2008

I took Nigel to the Duke of Yorks Theatre to see No Man’s Land by the English playwritght Harold Pinter.  The performances were at times funny, disturbing. The whole play left you with more questions than answers.

We went to our favourite Thai restaurant afterwards and were still puzzling what the play was about.

It was a privilege to see Michael Gambon in the lead role. We have been fans of his for a long time. To see him on stage you realise what real acting craft is. While the Daily Mail called the production a stinker (what do you expect for something so provincial as the Mail) we were totally mesmerised by the play as a work of art. The Guardian theatre critic described it as “an eerily disturbing play that transports us into a world somewhere between reality and dream.”

The cast includes David Walliams from Little Britain. He had is work cut out performing with Gambon. Occasionally he sounded like one of the Little Britain characters.
